Scrabble

Between 2004 and 2023, I was a US Grandmaster Scrabble player, memorizing over 100k words. I was the 2014 US Champion and held the world #1 rank in 2012.

I also mentor youth champions, direct major events, commentate + stream on Twitch.

Pro ambassador on major media outlets like ESPN, SI, CBS, NPR, and the New Yorker.

My Story

I’m Conrad Bassett-Bouchard aka CBB!

📍 Portland-based, Bay Area-raised, NYC-frequenting

I found my place in the world playing a board game, raised by its colorful community in my quest to win a National championship.

After climbing that mountain, I took a risk on becoming a UX designer and entering the tech world. The risk paid off: I landed a job in Google’s Associate Design program directly out of grad school in 2017, and love my chosen career path.

Along the way I've done a few other things (roughly in order):

🥁 Taught myself to play heavy metal drums in 1999

🥏 Play disc golf and racquet sports. Diehard SF Giants fan

🎓 I have a BS in cognitive psych, Masters’ in HCI, and EMBA

🏠 (co)-own 2 homes + have had Real Estate license since 2012

🧀 Cooked @ now defunct PDX food cart, the Grilled Cheese Grill

✈️ Traveled to all 50 US states—and almost 30 countries

💻 Co-founded a NFP start-up with friends during COVID

🏳️‍🌈 Happily partnered to a wonderful human named Brandon
